I am frequently asked questions about the various therapies I offer. Here are some of the most common ones.
If your question is not covered here, please feel to give me a call on 01767 650312 or via my contact page
Reiki as defined by the Oxford dictionary is:-
“A healing technique based on the principle that a trained Reiki practitioner can channel energy into the subject by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the body and restore physical and emotional well-being”.
It is also widely accepted that reiki can be given and received equally effectively hands-off or via distant healing.
‘Reiki’ translates as universal life force energy. It is a non-invasive complementary energy therapy that has been taught in Eastern medicine has for thousands of years, recognising its flow through all living things. Scientific research using quantum physics is helping us to understand how reiki works to benefit the individual.
Hypnotherapy is a form of complementary therapy that utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
The process itself aims to alter our state of consciousness in a way that relaxes the conscious part of the mind while simultaneously stimulating and focusing the subconscious part. This heightened state of awareness - reached using skilled relaxation techniques - allows the therapist to then make appropriate suggestions.
Absolutely, it is non invasive and can be administered 'hands off.' Please note, reiki is not a replacement for conventional medicine, please continue to consult your GP in the normal way when necessary.
Reiki is non-diagnostic, non-evasive, non-manipulative and no physical pressure is applied. The only sensations a subject might feel is warmth, coolness and sometimes a gentle tingling, or they may feel nothing at all. A reiki practitioner trained to level 2 or level 3, (reiki master), can also give reiki distance healing, distance is no object and the practitioner does not need to know, or have ever met the recipient.
The recipient is usually lying down in the therapy room which would be a quiet and peaceful environment. Reiki healing energy passes through all materials, therefore, no clothing needs to be removed at all. Visit our Reiki Healing page for more information.
Just one session can really help you but many feel a course of treatments are more beneficial. Sessions can take place at any time as desired, there is no pattern required.
Reiki is given fully clothed in a quiet environment and is safe for adults, children, mothers–to–be, babies and animals. However in the case of animals with health issues, owners should confirm that the animal has been seen by a veterinary surgeon to obtain a diagnosis. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose the health problems.
Not every question can be answered easily here, so please call me if you would like further information or visit the Reiki Healing page
Yes, absolutely, it's non-invasive and as a complimentary therapy, many people have them regularly to relieve muscle tightness and strains or purely for relaxation, stress relief and just a bit of pampering etc.
The actions of the various massage techniques, stimulate blood flow around the body and aids lymphatic drainage allowing waste material, (toxins) and other impurities to leave the body. You may also experience quite vivid dreams following an IHM, this again is completely normal.
Although quite unusual, certain medical conditions may mean that an IHM cannot be carried out, (we will send you a form to complete first for such information). Of course, 'local' conditions, for example, cold sores, abrasions and similar, may mean the massage has to be adapted but that's not a problem if you are happy with that.
As many and as often as you wish. IHM doesn't have to be just an occasional treat, many people have them on a regular basis to relieve muscle tension or purely for pleasure, (weekly, by-weekly, monthly etc) and as a general 'release' from the pressures of daily life. It is well documented that regular massages and general personal pampering, help maintain a healthy life/body balance.
Yes it will be necessary to remove neck-lasses, earrings and any facial piercings.
Yes you can but not during the first 3 months of pregnancy. Pregnancy can bring it's own stresses and strains and so an Indian Head Massage can be very beneficial.
Absolutely. Many of my customers are men, it's a lovely relaxing experience for all and men who do heavy manual work are often in even more need.
Absolutely, why not? Children love them!
Yes by all means, we offer to use oil in your hair as this nourishes the hair but this is entirely your choice, (you may prefer not to if you're heading straight back to work). Ladies especially, I do advise against visiting the hairdresser before your Indian Head Massage for obvious reasons!
Yes this is recommended as part of the massage includes your face, (which you'll find very enjoyable).
I suggest, you wear a loose top that ideally can be pulled away from the shoulder, although this is not essential, you will enjoy the experience more if we can massage against the bare skin on your shoulders and ideally, upper back although again this is not essential as the massage can also be done over clothing. If you do wish to remove your top, that's fine as I can provide a wrap around smock if you wish, (ladies will never need to remove their bra).
Approx. 35-40 mins, (your initial session will last for approx. 1 hour to incorporate the consultation form information).
You should feel great and wonderfully relaxed, calm and refreshed. You may experience a level of tiredness but this soon passes. You should sleep well too. Occasionally the following day, some clients may experience a mild headache or stomach ache or similar, this is short-lived and completely normal and is a sign that the massage has energised the blood circulation, improved the lymphatic function and is expelling those nasty toxins.
Firstly I will send you a simple health and lifestyle consultation form to complete, this will determine if there are any reasons you should not have an IHM at this time, (i.e. if you are suffering any infections or have recently had surgery, certain illnesses etc). The consultation form will also help me to tailor-make your massage if required. Only I, your therapist, will have access to any information you give me which is kept confidential.
